In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic and other recent disasters, it is important to remember that the long-term recovery process is just as crucial as addressing immediate needs. In the spirit of this, here is a list of resources that are available to Connecticut residents.
Local Governments
During a disaster, it is critical that municipalities have a solid disaster recovery connecticut plan in place to reduce the impact on their residents and communities. These plans help ensure that critical services are able to continue even in the face of a disaster. They also enable communities to identify risk factors in advance so that they can take action to prevent damage in the future.
State Contracts
Following a major disaster, FEMA provides a wide variety of federal assistance programs and resources for communities. In addition to the Public Assistance grant program, there are many other grants that can be utilized by communities to address their specific recovery needs.
Statewide Resources
2-1-1 is the single statewide telephone number that connects Connecticut’s residents to the community services and supports they need. 2-1-1 is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and is staffed by trained professionals. This service is free to all Connecticut residents and includes access to social services, housing support, health care services, legal advice, disaster recovery assistance and much more.
Region 4 is one of the five regions coordinated by the Department of Emergency Management and Homeland Security, Division of Emergency Management and Homeland Security (DEMHS) and organized under Regional Emergency Support Function 14 – Long-Term Recovery and Mitigation within the State’s Disaster Recovery Framework. The region encompasses all 169 DEMHS-member towns and two affiliated Tribal Nations in eastern Connecticut. The Region 4 Recovery Steering Committee is comprised of municipal officials, members of the Southeastern Connecticut Council of Governments (SCCOG), and representatives of non-governmental organizations that provide volunteer disaster response and recovery support.
