What is an IVF Clinic

A IVF Clinic is a health care center that offers in vitro fertilization (IVF). Often, the clinic will offer multiple financing options to help patients afford IVF. This may include grants for IVF cycles, bundled rates for IVF and genetic testing, or low-cost loan options through partner financing companies. Many IVF clinics also have a financial services department to help patients navigate insurance coverage and other costs.

IVF involves taking injections of hormones to stimulate the ovaries to grow egg-containing sacs, called follicles. Once one or more eggs reach a certain size, a doctor will use ultrasound images to guide a long needle through your vagina into the follicles to retrieve the eggs. There are risks associated with this procedure, including bleeding or infection.

The eggs are then mixed with sperm from your partner or donated sperm in the lab to create embryos. Embryos are usually transferred into the woman’s uterus about 3-5 days after the eggs are retrieved. If a woman has more embryos than she can implant, some are frozen for future use. Cryopreservation of embryos costs extra and is not included in the average IVF price tag.

Some IVF clinics have laboratories that specialize in freezing embryos. This helps minimize any damage from the freezing process and ensures the quality of the samples. IVF can be very stressful for you and your partner, and some couples need a few cycles to become pregnant. Support groups and counselling services can help you cope with the stress.
